Alan Heatherington, Chicago Tribune 2004 Chicagoan of the Year

Alan Heatherington named Chicagoan of the Year 2004

Ars Viva Symphony Orchestra is delighted to announce that Alan Heatherington has been named as one of the Chicagoans of the Year by the Chicago Tribune newspaper, in its December 26, 2004 issue.

The Chicago Tribune article states: ‘For 30 years Heatherington has made important contributions to the area’s classical music life as a conductor of orchestral, choral and, until recently, church music; as an educator; and as a professional violinist. He serves as music director of three thriving local organizations – the Ars Viva Symphony Orchestra, Chicago Master Singers and Lake Forest Symphony.’

The newspaper is admiring of the capacity crowds for almost every Ars Viva concert that gives its audience such variety and excellence of programming. ‘I believe that if we choose the right repertory and do it with integrity, the audience will respond,’ Heatherington says. ‘At our post-concert receptions I listen intently to what people have to say, and I come away feeling we are doing the right kinds of things – that, without dumbing down the concerts or going to gimmicks.’
