Here is the perfect program for those fence-dwellers who remain unconvinced that American composers of the past 100 years have had something worthwhile and enduring to say. The Ives symphony was completed in 1904, while Polifrone’s Ballad was among his final works completed early in 2006. Patrick Blackwell is a dazzling vocal communicator, and the orchestral musicians themselves have an astonishing surprise you must not miss!

Throughout the school year, in collaboration with Peter Rosheger, Director of Orchestras, Ars Viva musicians will hold sectional rehearsals and master classes at New Trier, Maestro Heatherington will conduct the students in rehearsal and they will observe Ars Viva rehearsals. The New Trier Chamber Orchestra will learn and perform some of the same music to be performed by Ars Viva, which will further enhance the shared musical experiences.
